Potholder Weaving Loom Lot Vintage Metal Pot Holder Loops

Pocket Loom Kit includes 3 Looms and Beaded Threader
This listing is for one set of pocket looms.
Our pocket loom set started out as a simple fun loom to pass time and teach the principles of weaving. The inspiration came from old weaving books where you take a piece of cardboard and wrap the warp around the long axis, from there the weft weaves around the other. To remove from the loom the warp threads on one end were cut and the loose threads woven back in. This caused way too much extra work and we quickly fixed this with a sacrifice thread at the top of the loom for attaching the warp threads. Now before the weave is removed from the loom a draw string can be threaded through the warp and the sacrifice thread is cut for removal, thus preserving the warp threads and making a more secure pouch.

Our pocket loom will also last far longer than cardboard. More advanced weavers are finding this a handy little tool for sampling color and textures. Their use for this simple loom was to warp it up very quickly and to needle weave one pattern on one side and another on the opposite without going around the side as to make a pouch. When they would cut the sacrifice thread they ended up with a very quick sample strip with two different weaves of new test fiber in a very short time.

Easy enough for children, but makes a beautiful pouch. The kit includes 3 graduated sizes 2 x 3.5″, 3 x 5″, and 5 x 7″, a threading tool, weaving needle, and basic directions.  A short tutorial here will be updated in future.

Our pocket loom set is made of 1/8″ Birch plywood. Do not let the word plywood discourage you from this loom.  Plywood is an engineered wood and has been made for thousands of years; the earliest known occurrence of plywood was in ancient Egypt around 3500BC when wooden articles were made from sawn veneers glued together crosswise.

We also have threading tools and thread nipppers available.
